The Jeep Wagoneer: The Return of an American Icon

The automotive industry is a competitive business, and manufacturers must keep up with the times if they want to make any profit. As one of America’s oldest auto brands, Jeep has created model after model, evolving with the growing needs of Americans. Thus, their very first model, the Wagoneer, was left behind. In 1960, it was a technological marvel, with sparkling new features no other manufacturer offered. As time progressed, the Wagoneer fell by the wayside, and was officially discontinued in 1991. But don’t lose hope. Perhaps in the spirit of their 80th Anniversary, Jeep is bringing it back. The Wagoneer is returning, better than ever, outfitted with the most luxurious features on the market. Let’s explore what we know about the new Wagoneer, and we’ll decide whether or not this is a step forward for Jeep.

2022 Jeep Wagoneer

A Brief Wagoneer History

Old_Jeep_WagoneerThe Wagoneer was first debuted in 1963, followed by the Super Wagoneer in 1966. Back then, it was outfitted with all of the most popular modern features of the time. Power steering was a marvel, along with power brakes, and these aspects raised the price of the Wagoneer until it was almost inaccessible. Within a few years, Jeep began focusing on more affordable models that appealed to middle class Americans. While the Wagoneer was still in the spotlight, it wasn’t nearly as popular. And, after 1990, Jeep decided the Wagoneer was simply too luxurious for its own good. The gas mileage was miserable, and there were safety issues abound. With its specific features and original design, it became its own class of vehicle, unable to compete with more affordable sedans and trucks. After that, we assumed the Wagoneer was gone for good.

The Revolutionary Revival of the Wagoneer

In a stunning announcement, Jeep released their concept for a 2022 model year Wagoneer. This time around, it aims to compete with the class that includes some of America’s most beloved trucks and SUVs, like the Ram 1500. And, with their eyes on America’s current economy, Jeep is focusing their price point a little lower than before. That means you could have access to an unprecedented return!

What Does the Wagoneer Have to Offer?

As of now, the newest Wagoneer model is just a concept. Jeep has listed all of their biggest goals for this model, aesthetically and internally. For a striking silhouette change, they’ve suggested a single-pane glass roof, opening the sky during late night drives. This design hasn’t forgotten its roots, but it’s combined previous stylistic choices with a modern twist to appeal to buyers in 2021. With a McIntosh sound system, a 12.1-inch touchscreen, and 45 inches of total display surface space, the height of luxury of this Wagoneer concept goes without saying. We’re looking forward to even more updates from Jeep!
